One of my favorite things about a lot of nice restaurants in the city is how "homey" they are. I mean this quite literally because the majority of fine dining is in houses. Old homes have been transformed to a welcoming environment. Bistro Daisy looks like a single family home nestled Uptown in between an art store and a coffee shop. The walls are painted a soft yellow lined with khaki panels and mirrors. We are seated in what used to be someone's living room and spoiled by warm bread and white fish. It was delightful.
Now, if I was still thirteen years old and out to eat with my friends, I might want them to join me in the bathroom. You know this trick, the girls all go to the restroom together to gossip about the days events and possibly the boys at the table. If I were a nineteen year old girl, set up on a blind double date with a friend, we might freshen up together to talk about how things are going. Don't deny it. It happens; and I suppose if the occasion called for it, I would travel in numbers to visit with Lou today. If you happen to be at Bistro Daisy, your thirteen year old self shouldn't worry because there is a seat. A french one. I like to believe that this seat is for a friend to chat while I am relieving myself. Maybe it is a place for me to sit and think about the day, to powder my nose, to keep my date sweating a bit, or any other number of things. I don't know what it is about it - but I like this chair. I sat in it and enjoyed the view.
The walls were a dark pink with a heart shaped mirror over the sink. On the table on the way out to the door are Altoids! In case your dinner had a wee too much garlic or you wanted to cleanse your palate. A person could spend their sweet time in this restroom and not feel rushed by time or anyone banging on the other end of the door. The only thing missing was a bit of light reading or a vase full of daisies. So, I could complain that there was no foam soap, but I definitely did not need it on this trip. On this visit with Lou, I felt at home.
You know how to celebrate a birthday. Love. D.
