Napa Valley, laid back and old fashioned

One of the best things about summer vacation is the ability to travel. One of the better than best things is to be able to travel with the one you love. Last week, we ventured out to the California Coast to get away from the heat of Louisiana and we ended up for two days at a wonderful bed and breakfast called the Old World Inn. I love staying at B&Bs. They cook you breakfast, they give you comfy rooms, and they are always there when you need them. Thankfully, this place offered free tastings and free coupons to other wineries in the Napa Valley Region. Okay. I know, I know. I originally set out to write about restaurant bathrooms since that seems to be the thing that always sparks my interest. Will they have foam soap? Will they have hand dryers that are speedy or will you rely on paper towels? When we arrived at the B&B....honestly, I couldn't help myself, I walked into this bathroom and was giddy. I mean, down right giggling.

Let me get to the point. It is rare in this day and age where you see a pull chain commode. Most toilets have upgraded to use less water and have different buttons referring to the amount of water that you want to use. In the Starry Night room at the Old World Inn, the lou has a pull chain and an elevated tank. For some reason, this felt like royalty. Maybe they wanted to dirty business of switching out water to be hidden from guests eyes or maybe they wanted to give you that "old world" feel. Regardless, this toilet did the trick.

What made this bathroom even more luxurious was the clawfoot bath tub. The women in my family know how to take advantage of a good bath. Its relaxing, it's soothing, and you can ignore the business of the outside world for long enough to just soak. So, next to my new friend "Mr. Pullchain" there was a gigantic clawfoot tub with a shower attached. I could have been a character in a Charles Dickens novel where they have to pour the water into the clawfoot tub. Alas, modernity allowed me to have my own faucet.

So, take it from me folks. If you want to be able to enjoy some luxury along with some simplicity, visit the Old World Inn in Napa, CA. (Napa is a great place too; try the wine!)
